Australia is a continent with a handful of coastal cities and a lot of distance between them, so the default long move is a flight. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide are the usual gates. Perth is a continent away from the east coast in practical terms. Tasmania is a further flight or a ferry. English is the language. Driving is on the left. The walkable bit of each city is a centre and a coast; the rest is a car city.
Domestic aviation is how you go from one state capital to another unless you have days for a drive. Trains exist on a few corridors and are not a national network in the European sense. National parks and the interior are their own trip, with heat, distance and a different packing list. Seasons are inverted from the northern hemisphere: Christmas is summer on the east coast.
Cards are used for almost everything. Tap-to-pay is normal. Sun and UV are not a footnote; they are the climate. Wildlife on the road is a real night-driving problem outside the cities. A first visit that holds is one city plus one region, or two east-coast cities and a flight between them. Two weeks is enough for that, and not enough for a lap of the continent.
